Sustainable Laboratories for High-Consequence Pathogens in Low Resource Environments – PhaseII

Project

Sustainable Laboratories for High-Consequence Pathogens in Low Resource Environments – PhaseII

This project aims to identify tangible design and operational adjustments for biological containment facilities in low-resource environments. Although primarily focussed on Africa, lessons learned and outcomes will be applied globally. Based on the outcomes of Phase I (2017-2018), Phase II of the project:

  • Created a Prior Assessment Tool for Sustainable Laboratories (which supports efforts to tailor laboratory infrastructure to local risks and resources without compromising biosafety and biosecurity);
  • Is developing core specifications for sustainable laboratories; and
  • Investigating the feasibility of establishing a regional skills training hub.
