Project

Next Generation Biosecurity – Responding to 21st Century Biorisks – Open Online Course

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office funded the development of an open online university-level course on biosecurity, entitled “Next Generation Biosecurity – Responding to 21st Century Biorisks”, which draws on the Bradford Guide: Preventing Biological Threats: What You Can Do. During 2018 – 2021 the Ministry of Defence of UK is funding follow-on work to raise awareness of the course, to encourage global participation on a larger scale and, more recently, to include teaching material related to SARS-CoV-2. Both the Bradford Guide and accompanying Handbook, and “Next Generation Biosecurity” are freely available online at https://www.bradford.ac.uk/social- sciences/peace-studies/research/publications- and-projects/guide-to-biological-security- issues/Guide_final.pdf and www.futurelearn.com/courses/biosecurity respectively. The online course has so far attracted participation from over 3000 learners from more than 85 countries.
