Assistance in Establishing the State’s System of Accounting for and Control of Nuclear Material and the Physical Protection System

To establish Belarus’ state safeguards system and physical protection of its facilities, this project provided equipment to various institutions in Belarus. The Joint Institute for Power and Nuclear Research – Sosny (SSI) and the Department for Supervision of Industrial and Nuclear Safety received equipment to improve a telecommunication system between the two organizations. SSI also received equipment to establish a state system for accounting for and control of nuclear material and to establish a measurement system. To bolster its physical protection system, SSI received an entry/exit control system and a surveillance system. The Regional Nuclear Material Control Center at SSI received equipment as well.
