BioIndustry Initiative – Sibbiopharm

This initiative turned a once defunct Soviet biologics production facility in Berdsk, Siberia into an international biotechnology enterprise and trained staff, which included former weapons scientists, to operate the facility as a private business. In addition to facilitating large-scale upgrades to Sibbiopharm’s infrastructure, its staff and local leaders dismantled its dual-use capabilities to ensure the facility was fully equipped and able to practice safe and responsible science.
