Chemical Forensics International Technical Working Group (CFITWG) in Support of International Attribution Efforts

The Chemical Forensics International Technical Working Group (CFITWG) is a group of scientific and technical experts who engage with international organizations, law enforcement, and the wider forensics community to support the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and deter chemical weapons proliferation and use by rogue states and non-state actors. The CFITWG includes membership of experts from over 12 countries including from OPCW Designated Laboratories. The funding supports a Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) expert to edit a text co-authored by CFITWG members summarising the state of knowledge in chemical forensics relevant to chemical weapons attribution. Good progress has been made developing the text, which will be completed by the end of 2021. The text will describe new methods and insights to enable improved chemical weapon attribution.
