Chernobyl Shelter Implementation Plan (SIP)

The Chernobyl Shelter Implementation Plan (SIP), which has created a step-by-step strategy for decisions required to develop a program to make the site of the 1986 nuclear accident safe. The plan was split into two phases. The first phase of the Shelter Implementation Plan focused on the engineering work required to define conceptual solutions for confinement and stabilization and on a strategy for fuel-containing materials in the shelter. The next phase consisted of actually building the structure that is planned from the first phase of the Plan.
