Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Program: Countering Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Missile and Nuclear Program

The United States Department of State’s Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction builds capacity in partner countries to counter Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) proliferation activities and implement the relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions. This engagement is global in scope, but the focus is on states that have trade relations with the DPRK or may be a hub for shipping goods to or from the DPRK. Program activities include: 1) strengthening shipping sector programs and processes against DPRK abuse; 2) countering DPRK proliferation financing; 3) implementing sectoral sanctions; 4) counter DPRK cyber operations; 5) reducing bilateral ties; and 6) generating actionable information from open sources.
