Kyrgyz Consortium for GIS Excellence (KCGE) Project

The Kyrgyz Consortium for GIS Excellence (KCGE) has helped scientists across Central Asia strengthen their mapping skills to more quickly map and track diseases. It primary goal was to raise the level of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) expertise in Kyrgyzstan and to stimulate research, education, and business cooperation using these technologies. The KCGE has resulted in the establishment of a GIS facility located at the Kyrgyz State University of Construction, Transportation and Architecture (KSUCTA) in Bishkek. A GIS computer laboratory equipped with modern hardware and GIS software was established at KSUCTA. Instructors from the local research community, the United States, and Europe provide GIS training in spatial analysis, spatial epidemiology, ecological modeling and integration of GIS into biological, ecological and disease surveillance studies.
