Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI) – Health Pillar

This initiative created an integrated sub-regional cooperation among the five Lower Mekong countries to serve as a platform to address complex, transnational development and policy challenges in the Lower Mekong sub-region. The Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI) Health Pillar leverages US subject matter expertise to promote dialogue and information exchange among LMI partner countries. It encourages policies and programs that support public health, with an emphasis on cross-cutting and transnational issues through:

  • Prevention, detection and mitigation of the impact of Communicable and Infectious Diseases;
  • Prevention and control of counterfeit as well as substandard medications;
  • Implementation of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Health Regulations (IHR);
  • Innovative Antimicrobial Resistance measures; and
  • eHealth Technology.
