OPCW Swiss Courses on Assistance and Protection (Chemical Weapons Convention Article X)

The full curriculum offered entails the Swiss Basic Course (annual), the Swiss Advanced Course (bi- annual), the Swiss Laboratory Course (annual), as well as the Swiss Exercise Course (bi- annual). In the courses, participants train on Swiss protective equipment and other material that would be provided under Article X of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) if the OPCW asks for it in case of an emergency.

The Swiss Basic Course provides basic training for experts who are or will be associated with chemical weapons protection efforts and training in their respective home countries.

In the Swiss Advanced Course, participants enhance their knowledge on how to act on a chemical incident site.

In the Swiss Laboratory Course, participants learn how to build-up and run a Swiss field laboratory.

In the Swiss Exercise, the participants apply their skills to manage a chemical incident and gain experience in leading a team.
