Project 81: Enhanced Biosecurity in Southeast Asia

The project aims at strengthening regional and national preparedness to biological threats by increasing awareness of relevant stakeholders and developing appropriate legislation for high-risk biological agents and dual-use biological materials. High-risk biological agents will be inventoried at the national level to ensure proper control and monitoring, including appropriate protection and security measures.

The project will help in enhancing cross-sectorial information exchanges and coordination between various health services, law enforcement authorities/intelligence. Special attention will be given for increasing awareness at border and custom controls together with the development of better capacities for the accurate identification of biological threat agents, and capability to prevent and respond to pandemics due to natural causes, accidents or deliberate release of high-risk biological threat agents.
