Project

Strengthening Biosecurity Legislative Frameworks in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The Center for Global Health Science and Security at Georgetown University, in collaboration with Global Implementation Solutions (GIS) and Johns Hopkins University, has created a biosecurity legislative assessment tool and methodology, designed to identify strengths and gaps in the national regulatory and legislative landscape related to all aspects of biosecurity. The aim is to assist countries in identifying opportunities for strengthening legislation or policies relative to obligations under international biosecurity frameworks and treaties, including the BWC. We are piloting the biosecurity legislative assessment tool and methodology in the DRC, working closely with the National One Health Commission and other relevant sectors. The project is being implemented in coordination with the UNODA legislative assistance team and the Africa CDC’s national biosecurity legislation initiative.
