Strengthening the Global Nuclear Security Regime after Ukraine

Project

Strengthening the Global Nuclear Security Regime after Ukraine

Events in 2022 have exposed gaps in certain aspects global nuclear security architecture (e.g. impact of state behaviour, and international response coordination mechanisms), and altered the geopolitical dynamics in a key region of concern for nuclear security (the Black Sea region). By bringing together a diverse range of official, expert and civil society stakeholders to assess and report on the impacts of events in Ukraine on nuclear security, this project will help improve our understanding of a key emerging risk (impact of state behaviour on nuclear security) in a key region, and improve our ability to develop and implement possible mitigations and solutions. In the medium term it will help ensure international nuclear security regimes, treaties and initiatives are implemented effectively and make understanding of the risks amongst wider stakeholder more granular and precise.
