Support for Canada’s International Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

These projects, implemented by and through Canada’s Weapons Threat Reduction Program, supported Canada’s international response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Support included:

  • $90 million to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) for research, development, testing, and licensing of COVID-19 vaccines;
  • $1.4 million to acquire, equip, and certify twenty mobile laboratories for rapid diagnosis of COVID-19 and other infectious disease for South Africa’s National Institute for Communicable Diseases;
  • $10.4 million for the in-kind provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, which in turn distributed items to African member states most in need; and
  • $44.8 million for the in-kind provision of PPE to the ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN member states.
