Veterinary Legislation Support Programme (VSLP)

This programme helps Member Countries recognise and address their needs for modern, comprehensive veterinary legislation in compliance with international standards to support strong and effective Veterinary Services. It consists of two stages. The first stage is the Veterinary Legislation Identification Mission to obtain a detailed picture of the current state of veterinary legislation in a country. The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) seeks to raise awareness of the essential elements in legal drafting that result in quality veterinary legislation, identify/support the preparation of national priorities in terms of veterinary legislation, and develop recommendations to modernise a country’s veterinary legislation. The second phase of this programme is the Veterinary Legislation Agreement to support the country in correcting its deficiencies in veterinary legislation. The OIE seeks to establish specific objectives for legislation reform/modernisation based upon the country’s priority needs, raise awareness and strengthen relevant skills and promote collaboration between technical and legal drafters, and support the development of new laws and regulations. This programme is available to OIE Members and the request is made through the OIE Delegate to the Director General of the OIE.
