Mitigation of Animal Disease Threats through Sustainable Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity

This project supports the OIE to strengthen biological safety and biosecurity at high-risk and vulnerable laboratories around the world. Project activities include:

  • Regional and global analysis on investment needs for veterinary laboratories to provide concrete and evidence-based arguments developed for decision-makers on the impact on global health, security and trade;
  • Implementation of an action plan to improve sustainable laboratory biosafety and biosecurity;
  • Support for veterinary laboratory twinning projects to enhance their capacity for diagnosis and control of priority diseases;
  • Further developments to the Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) sustainable laboratories tool to provide countries and Veterinary Services a methodological basis to address challenges and priorities in animal and veterinary public health and determine institutional roles and responsibilities therein; and
  • An open innovation competition to generate solutions to improve laboratory sustainability.
